Paul's Response

Ron Paul's Response

Our letter to Ron Paul

January 15, 2008

Dear Congressman Paul:

Foreign policy is too important to the future of this nation to be addressed in brief sound bites in rotating “debates” between the eight Republican presidential candidates. These do not add to any real understanding of the issues at stake.

The American people deserve better. We are not buying a bar of soap. We want real debates on matters of importance.

We propose a full debate on foreign policy, with due emphasis on the role America should play in Iraq and Iran.

You are the only Republican presidential candidate with a foreign policy stance dramatically different from all the others. Senator McCain is the frontrunner among them. We therefore propose a debate on foreign policy between you and John McCain.

You two have the capability to recreate the famed Lincoln-Douglas debates on the foremost issue of our day. Let’s do it!

The American people deserve a full-length debate between your two viewpoints. We urge you to accept this invitation.

When you accept, we can meet with you or your representatives—as well as John McCain or his representatives—to discuss the time, location, and other details with representatives of interested national media.

Sincerely,

David Franke
